Feeling like re-donkulous accessories lately...probably because I've been watching these guys on stylelikeu.com way too much! I'm normally adverse to colour - anyone who knows me can vouch my wardrobe comprises of black, black and more black. Even on the accessory front I wear mainly black shoes and plain accessories. Somethings in the air maybe but I'm feeling colour lately. Well, on the accessory front. You'll never get me out of black jeans and t-shirts.

Also the new Jeremy Scott x Adidas collection is insane, as per usual, with Charlotte Free featuring. Her hair...no words describe how much I want it. The grown-out roots also mean fairly easy maintenance. Maybe one day when my hair hits a decent length i'll attempt a coloured dye-job (probably with the help of professionals, I've had too many self-dye cock ups to not know better)!

I call this kinda style 'douchey' style. I mean that in literally the most endearing way possible. I have a trucker cap by Stussy which I have named my 'douche' hat. Not kidding.
So onto my new 'douche' accessories, courtesy of the Office sale & H&M. The shoes are the pink colourways of my black nikes that I've worn half to death this past few months. They were sitting in the sale - a size too big - but the price and the wear I know I'll get out of them was too much to resist. The sunnies lept out to me off the shelf as I was leaving the store.

Mentioning Balmain yesterday in my menswear post reminded me of the project I did at Uni this year which I never posted the results of. It was to re-design the carrier bag for a designer brand with the inspiration and ideas behind it explained...and to make a mini mock-up of the bag too.
We have to present our ideas as moodboards and so these are my friend Natalie and my boards we handed in for Balmain:

This is the aspect of my course I love, the visual modules, and luckily Natalie did most of the presentation for Balmain so I got free reign on the photoshop side. Changing course to Fashion Marketing & Branding this year, so should get more of this kinda stuff :).

Pastel-y colours are popular this S/S in menswear, but looking at next S/S(12) they seem to have focused on pastels which are more washed out than this year. The Balmain Homme collection, designed by the new head designer Olivier Rousteing, does just this but in the usual rough-and-ready Balmain style. I would like to own literally every piece from this collection, and I don't care if it'd be huge on me!

Finished off with slightly more summer-appropriate shoes, though I love the boots. Prada does a mean pastel brogue.

Some kinda insane menswear pieces recently on the runways...strangely I like them. Especially the pleated man-skirts at Givenchy and the archaic prints at Kenzo. Theres something so kinda tacky-wrong about these outfits, yet so right at the same time.

Menswear definitely is perking up a lot, and taking more inspirations from Womenswear - especially with Riccardo Tisci translating his looks seamlessly across both women's and menswear. Pity they don't do men's footwear in womens sizes :(

Inappropriate

I always end up looking at clothing that is wayy inappropriate for the weather. It's baking hot here in London but this is my least favourite time of year for dressing. I like the sun, but I hate having to get my limbs out in the open - genetically pale, pink-y skin does me no favours to looking good in minimal clothing - so I tend to just wear jeans and tshirts for as long as physically possible in the summer. I mean...last summer I wore boots all summer long, and probably will end up doing the same this summer and just sweating it out!

This stuff to wear might be possibly bearable...hoping so or i'll become a vampire hiding from the sun!

I really like the idea of friends dressing in a way which compliments each other - say - similar silhouettes or colour schemes, or a general attitude in their style. It creates a kind of 'fashion clan' carving through the streets, as evidenced by Tommy Ton's menswear shots recently:

It's so pleasing to the eye, as well as incredibly smooth and a little cheeky too. One day I'll convince all my lot to co-ordinate like this and suavely stomp the streets!

I've been a completely horrific blogger since coming to University. I would post outfits etc but I don't have a tripod with me, and am a bit embarrassed to ask anyone to take photos for me, to be honest. No-one at Uni knows about this blog, and very few back home do. I don't really know why not....it's just not something I shout about from the rooftops.
I have created a tumblr account though, http://lmackenziew.tumblr.com/ which I have been updating a bit recently, so thats kinda an easier way for me to blog quickly at the moment.

Sorry for taking so damn long to post, but moving my life up to Nottingham for Uni has been pretty hectic and uni life has been comprised of a) partying b) bleary eyed morning lectures c) too little sleep!

So the day before I left to come here, I went to London Fashion Weekend with my mum, as usual. It was quite dissappointing this time actually. The actual show wasn't too bad - although I hated some of the things they sent down the catwalk, but the shopping was quite limited. They've cut down the size a LOT since I first went and the stuff seems to be staying there over two of the weekends so seeing the same stuff isn't very inspiring :(

LFW S/S'11 Part 1

I know that LFW isn't over yet, but I had to post some of my favourites already on the collections shown.

I saw a lot more block-colour outfits that I fell in love with, over the intensely textured and printed ones at New York. The Slouchy, simple layers at Acne really captivated me along with the prudish necklines at CKane.

Of course, there were a ton of prints I loved as well. The blue and white theme cropped up a little here, but not in the same chintzy 'willow' as in NY. Vivienne Westwood was a bit of a paired-down shocker, but the styling with the face paint and to-die-for mismatched brogues and traditional brand layering it worked so well. The pastel colours are a little unexpected as well, but done in a tough way. That t-shirt with the flower bouquet print HAS TO MAKE IT IN MY WARDROBE.

On some other notes;

Paul Smith; NOMNOMNOM, I am in love with the clear brogues and backless brogues too. And the hair - definately something I shall be attempting soon - rockabilly chic, non?!

Erdem; Oh, Erdem, why do you let me down so?

Burberry; Christopher Bailey how dare you. Admittedly I would of course love the black tough leather, but I think this was an overkill. One outfit, if I remember, included coloured leopard print, black leather and studs in a crazy contrived mush. Crazily overdone and feel severely let down, especially with the hideous take on the oh-so-elegant drapery from last spring - now done in a horrid tacky ruching. :(

NYFW S/S'11.

Looking through all the New York, and now London shows, has been a nice break from packing and shopping for Uni stuff. I'm off this coming saturday to Nottingham Trent University, to study Fashion and Textile Management. I'm so so so so so excited to finally be going and getting a chance to study my true love - I'm hoping learning in this respect will be a lot more enjoyable than school ever was!
But onto the actual point of this post, New York FW. I've picked out a few of my favourite pieces from the shows I loved the most.

If it isn't clear enough by the title of my blog, I love the colours blue and grey paired together, but another pairing I have recently declared my undying love towards is blue and white. Shopping for china in second hand and antique shops to take with me to Uni has unveiled my obsession with blue and white 'willow' china and this obsession was added to with the presence of this colour combination in some of my top favourite shows from New York.

Granted, there is some good old black in there as well but the overall beauty of the colour combination with the prints is just drool-worthy, with Betsey declaring blue and white a best-friend pairing!

Also, going last minute shopping with mum has resulted in quite a lot of pinks and reds and generally 'girly' purchases, which is also fuelled by the presence of femininity in its fullest in some of the shows.

A few side notes on the collections as a whole :-

Proenza Schouler; WOW. I am so happy that they've made the departure from their usual grungier looks (which I never thought I'd hear myself say as I was in love with this aesthetic). The feminine colour palette and mixture of new fabrics pays homage to their previous couple of seasons, with flashes of the greeny-blues and the silhouettes of jackets, etc.

Mulberry; Red-heads a-go-go, which always makes me happy as my sister is a redhead and I feel alliance to them (alongside having the redhead gene in me somewhere!) and their ultra-femme look with the crisp pinks and blues pairs perfectly against ginger hair.

Rodarte; Wow depaaaartturrrreee! Love, love the look with the 'picnic-blanket' layers and general muddy palette with the beautiful shocks of those blue and white GENIUS creations. Need'nt say more.

Sorry for my severe lack of posting recently. I've not been feeling amazingly inspired - having to go to work at places where jean and a tee is the done attire doesn't exactly inspire sartorial genius outfits.
Anyway, following the tee inspiration I ordered a couple of the Ashish for Topshop 'french' ones to throw on when feeling more casual.

I got the 'Bisous Bisous' one seen above (note the freshly dyed dark hair, aaaah it feels so good to go back dark now the sun is waining and looks awesome with the neon pink lipsticks I picked up last time my hair was this colour) and the 'Parlez vous Anglais?' one as well - SUPER soft and really nicely cut.

Pret-A-Portea

My 18th was a while ago - in July - but being on holiday with friends over it meant my parents wanted to take me for a little family event to celebrate when I got back. Not realising the waiting list for these things, probably stupidly, today was the first weekend available to go for afternoon tea, or 'Pret-a-Portea' as it is aptly named at The Berkeley Hotel in Central London. The tea is 'fashion themed' with the pastries inspired by designers like Christopher Kane (a pink gingham topped macaroon!), Anya Hindmarch (a striped marzipan and cake handbag) and Sonja Rykiel (a creamy, striped dessert with a marzipan 'hat') all served on Paul Smith print crockery. Of course, this was an excuse to also dress up :)

The Menu with details on all the delicious pastries. The savouries were also amazing, and did veggie options for myself - my Dad is particularly fond of savouries, while Mum & I are completely sweet-toothed!

Been wearing these shorts pretty much solidly for a couple of weeks since I got them. Gorgeous orangey-red shade and perfectly baggy - bought a high waisted style too big so they hang on my hips.
Weather on and off so have exchanged monochromatic red tees for this new denim shirt for the rain today.

Recently I have had the chance to give an interview with one of my favourite bloggers of all time; Elisabeth from 'Thrills and Frills'. Reading since starting my blog, so since 2008, I have always returned to this blog for its unique take on the 'blog' and because of Elisabeth's great taste. From talking to her through email you can tell she is so friendly and has been helpful and great with such detailed answers. So here's the interview: (all images in this post are taken from her blog)

What do you wear on the plane?

Anything that is comfortable yet smart. When flying to Spain two weeks ago I wore my jersey American Apparel skirt with an oversized striped tee and brogues. Ever since I was little my mother dressed me and my sisters smartly when flying and I still do that today, I could never be a flip flops and velour suit sort of girl when flying!

What do you wear as stay at home clothes?

Like I mentioned above I’m not a leggings or velour trousers sort of person, I don’t dress so smartly all the time but I do like to keep a balance, smart but with a kooky twist; a neat dress but with messy hair. I don’t know why but I don’t like to wear anything that looks like it might be worn to bed or to the gym unless I am doing those things. I’m definitely a morning person and I love to get up and immediately jump out of my pjs and into some clothes, I find it wakes you up a lot quicker, makes you feel ready for the day. I also like the fact that if I need to nip out of the house or meet a friend out and about I don’t have to spend a lot of time getting ready! On a typical day I’d maybe wear a skirt with a blouse or sheer t-shirt or even a casual dress. It makes it all the more satisfying when I do finally jump into a pair of pjs at the end of the day :)

Do you have any unusual style inspirations like men, kids, little old ladies...?

I’ve never really sat down to think about this too much; usually what inspires me is whatever I see around me in the streets of course in magazines and street style blogs like the Facehunter. Unusual inspiration would most likely be my love for men's suits and how men dressed in the 1920-40's, I love that English preppy look with brogues and chino's and beautiful full length coats. I also drew a lot of inspiration from the 80's new romantics’ era when I was younger, lots of beautiful poetic/slightly gothic outfits. being a former Goth and grunge gal I can’t help but resort back to wearing lots of black and never brushing my hair every once in a while!

Inspirations outside of fashion?

This is a hard one, um, when I was little I was determined to be an artist I wanted to grow up to be like the bohemian artists and novelists of the 1930's in Paris, skipping around in beautiful dresses and covered in quirky jewels. I also took a lot of inspiration from my travels when younger, I was determined to dress how they did in Europe, I thought everything was better there and loved how all the girls in Germany and France looked so much older and cooler! I love visiting flea markets and vintage markets too. my parents always manage to find these Aladdin cave style antique/bric a brac stores in N. Ireland or on our travels, that are full to the brim with exciting things so I’m never sort of inspiration when I visit home. when I last went home my father took me to a pokey little bric a brac store in Belfast where he bought me old metal buttons off an 1940's Irish policeman’s uniform so that I could sew them on my old battered leather jacket, so yeah a lot of inspiration comes from what my parents have taught me and shown me.

Any celebrity styles you admire, or do you just think that celebrity style is unrealistic to the average person?

I think if anything celebrities are a more realistic inspiration than taking it straight from the catwalk. The celebrity trends definitely influence what appears on the high street and thus inspires normal everyday people to wear something similar. It’s almost as if people need a confirmation that something is actually wearable through these people before they have the confidence to try it themselves. I don’t agree with this way of dressing but I can’t help but admit I admire how people like Alexa Chung, Daisy Lowe and the Olsen sisters put together an outfit. There’s definitely a line though between taking inspiration and only wearing something because your favourite celebrity has worn it, I have seen too much of this while working in Topshop - how items can just become best sellers because someone was spotted wearing it in a magazine!

The same item you buy repeats of again and again throughout years?

1.brogues - I’m addicted, I wear them like how people wear pumps, I love how they immediately smarten/or add a twist to an outfit and I love that they have a longer life span than any pair of pumps will. 2. Oversized jackets/blazers - since I didn’t own a coat until last year these are the back bone to my wardrobe, I love how like brogues they add a masculine twist to an outfit and make a plain t-shirt look smart. 3. High waisted loose or pleated skirts - I love to pick long 90's skirts up in charity shops and lop the bottom of them. Since I don’t were jeans they are my everyday essential. 4. vintage band tees or sheer t-shirts - I like t-shirts with photographic prints and sheer ones from Topman, when I feel like splashing out I pick some up in American Apparel or Cos.

Jewelry; bold and chunky or dainty and understated?

Both! But never worn together. In the last few years I have preferred to layer lots of dainty jewellery together for a more bolder but mixed up look. My favourite thing is to wear lots of simple tiny necklaces together with lots of thin bracelets piled on one arm.

How do your family and friends feel about the blog? Do they go so far as to take photos for you?

My boyfriend used to take outfit pictures for me but otherwise my blog has always been a very private thing to me, I started it up because very few of my friends are interested in fashion the same way as I am. I’ve never told many people about the blog because I don’t want to seem like a 'know it all' or appear as someone who thinks of themselves as 'fashionable', I’ve never felt comfortable with that. A few friends know of it now but it’s rarely a point of discussion. My family also know about it but again except for a few teasing comments from my sisters it’s a private thing. Recently my father started reading it, impressed with how many readers I had but mostly he told me off more how many clothes I buy!

Do you think growing up in Ireland rather than somewhere like London influenced your fashion sense at all?

I don’t know whether it’s influenced or hindered my style to be honest. Most of my influence when I was younger and living near Belfast came from travelling and it seemed a little more acceptable to dress differently there. Of course when I went through the gothic phase and later a grunge phase, it was about belonging to a 'gang', feeling different from the rest of people in school but that you belonged to a small club. When I moved to the rural countryside I immediately was felt to feel like a freak for dressing differently, because my family were from Belfast and considered 'outsiders' it was hard adjusting. I struggled for about 3 years, completely losing my sense of identity and actually feeling rather depressed, I think I tried for a while to blend in, dress like everyone else. When eventually I made some friends I got back my confidence back and began experimenting more, I think everyone finally excepted that I was 'different' and now when I go back its just expected that I’ll be wearing something more 'out there' as they say. I think maybe living in there for those years showed me how important it is to be honest with yourself and maybe gave me more determination to dress exactly how I want.

Obviously working at Topshop influences a lot of your purchases, but where else would you like to work; in fashion or not?

I adore working in Topshop, I love it because it’s such a good mix of retail and fashion! I think more than other high street stores we are constantly encouraged to look at the current trends and influences of the catwalk. My little plan in my head is to continue working in retail for a few more years, continue my training as a Visual Merchandiser and maybe go down the path of Styling. I don’t want to work for Topshop forever and would look to work for companies like Urban Outfitters, Cos and Opening Ceremony. In the distant future I’d like to eventually go back to my other interests such as philosophy, English, art and religion, maybe become a religious education or art teacher when I’m a lot older, a lot older!

So my job fell through as they decided that they couldn't be bothered to spend time training me, and wanted to take on someone already within the company. Grr!

But I've been channelling my annoyance/boredom into getting back into art a little bit more, since my hiatus on it after finishing art A2. The picture look a little familiar? The nose wasn't right at all from the original piece, so I got bored of trying to fix the nose and experimented with Mattise-inspired watercolour colour combinations. I like the colour mix enough that it kinda cancels out the crapness in likeness to the photograph.

New Job.

I've just got a new job, working in a clothes shop. Of course as soon as I finish school for the rest of my life I have to wear a uniform again. The criteria is 'plain black' and unrecognisable clothing until I've worked long enough to get employee discount on their clothing.
I've been slowly working all the black out of my wardrobe for the last few years, having only worn solid black and dark colours before so of course now I'm in a panic of what to wear. Also I need it to be slightly more interesting than just black trousers and a top.

Inspiration:

Of course this isn't actually wearable, like the logo t-shirt and I doubt my boss would be happy with sparkles, but like the overall vibe of the outfit.

I've been discovering more about Matisse recently, having not known so much about him before. Reading his biography currently which is fascinating. The colour red has always attracted me, so it's no surprise why I am drawn to this painting so much.

The painting below is by Picasso - a firm favourite of mine for years. A few years ago I saw paintings of his in Venice from this period of his life and the colours and modern quality to this is so interesting and captivating.

I've realised it's been over 2 years now (missed the anniversary sadly) since I first started this blog. My first post's date was 27/05/2008 - how completely crazy is that?! A momentus occasion for me seeing as sometimes I don't always keep up with doing projects!

To mark this occasion I am making a rare outfit post! Haha - I always am so bad at doing these, even when I like my outfit I don't really like being photographed, prefer to be the photographer myself.
Anyhoo I also put some pink streaks in my hair after obsessing over Krystal and Becca's Paper Planes shoot with their candy-coloured extensions (though mines semi-permanent!).

Lately I've been wearing sloppy outfits like this, and especially in England's current hot spells, where it's too hot to dress fussily. Plus I'm so damn pale and unattractive I need to get my limbs out to the sun before I go on holiday wearing bikinis - ugh! Oversized tshirts are the holy grail to me, along with black skinny jeans, although I've traded these in for loose, high-waisted silky shorts.

Inspiration Notes

In 2008 I started carrying round a little notebook wherever I went so I could put cuttings and write notes down in it, about clothes and fashions I liked and was inspired by. I took it out of my bag at some point along the way, but re-descovered it the other day and decided I should keep on adding to it.

Seen Rihanna's new 'Rockstar' video? I'm completely in love with the styling here. Paying tribute to Slash among other rocker influences, a playful and edgy look that Rihanna, of course, pulls of so well. Also I love the decision to shoot it completely in black and white. This works, of course, for the influence but also fitting with my current want to photograph only in black and white. I've never been much of a colour photography fan, but try to edge myself into it more.

It makes me want to play up the rocker influence in outfits, that I already seem to go back to as a default style - don't think that'll ever leave my style, along with the tendency to go to blacks, greys and whites.

I have to say, Venice is probably my favourite place in the world to be. The buildings, people and culture is so inspirational and despite the tiny size, I never get bored there. Visiting the Art and Architectural Biennales is fantastic - something I recommend doing in a lifetime (preference to the Art Biennale). Some of my all time favourite personal photography has happened in this place.

I promised scans of my first film using the Diana F+ camera - so here the vast majority of them are! Problems with not rolling on the film have lead to a happy mistake producing the last photo which layered two images, my favourite of the lot. The others are a bit trial-and-error, but now I have a better idea of what I'm actually doing hopefully they will improve quickly.

Also taking photos on film SLR which are being developed. My films keep having to be sent off to external developers so I'm having to wait weeks for them which is not so good for impatient me! Took some (hopefully) awesome shots in b&w at a friend's gig so I hope they turn out well for their sake!

Say hello to my new baby! The Lomography Diana F+ Edelweiss edition. I have loved photography for many years, as my dad introduced me to it and also having a dark room at school to play around in is great too.
Seeing as next year at uni I won't be able to do as much art as I like, not taking a direct art course (hopefully Fashion and Textile Management!) I wanted to start experimenting with things that I will able to continue doing then. Photography is one of the least messy forms of art I love and I have enough cameras to count on my hand so i'm trying some different techniques and styles, starting with lomography. I'm sending the first film in today to be processed so we'll see how it turns out, and I hope to post some of my stuff on here soon.

I saw this jumper/tshirt print a while ago, from Wildfox, before they became available to buy.

When it finally came out I realised there was no way I could afford to spend the money they were asking. The other day a wild idea sprung to mind that I could get my own version made for a fraction of the price.

So today, this arrived! I could also get it in the oversized tshirt style I like best and the colours I preferred to the original. Also at only £13 - this saved me well over £50. I had it printed with a shiney text as well so it sparkles as it moves, rather appropriate for the slogan too!

London Fashion Weekend. I promised photos, despite quality being not so good as last time, due to INSANE amounts of people in comparison.

This is what I was dealing with in most of my photos in terms of head-obstructions.

Kinda have an obsession with this bum-ruffle thing. I want one for all my outfits!

These bags were vintage - gorgeous and so girly.

Could never wear this, but a playful look for spring.

Remember D&G's pyjama looks for autumn/winter? This is the spring alternative, which I secretly love.

This girl I realised was on Britain's Next Top Model. She was the most unique looking and had a great walk too.

Yesterday I went to London Fashion Weekend. So, so exciting and I had an amazing time, soon to post pictures of the catwalk and some of my purchases. Spur-of-the-moment thing as well, got a haircut!

These were my inspirations, alongside the hairdressers Rihanna photo inspiration.

London Fashion Week has started - one of my favourite times of year! So, so excited to see what the designers have to offer from the week. Also, as per (now) usual I'm attending London Fashion Weekend on Saturday which makes me REALLY excited!

Here's what I like so far;

I really like this whole collection, the nature-based colour palette (ref. the Copenhagen conference), the styling and the coats especially are cut beautifully.

Fulton managed to combine tricky prints and embellishment with cool urban footwear (as well as the odd high-heel thrown in) while making it look elegant and fresh. Definitely how I like to wear my dressier pieces during the day.

Kinda in love with this collection, as everyone seems to be from the response! It has the perfect casual-smart-comfy mix I love to wear in the colder months and has a touch of english heritage about it, which I've been looking at for inspiration lately so hope to carry this into next winter.

This is all about clashing prints, luxurious layers and - the shoes! Wow, love these laced boots. Very lady-like, hope to mix some of the colour and print combos into my wardrobe next winter.

Spring/summer Staples.

Come spring/summer shoes can become a big issue for me. I'm very fussy about what I wear - it must, must be comfortable but still pretty enough and also blend into the background a bit, just simple shoes are normally the go to - not very many heels in summer!
So TOMS are my go-to shoes. This season they've released some new 'lace-up' designs (worn with or without races, as you prefer) with fancy piping which I'm really excited about! I'll probably order this cream and brown pair as well as a more basic navy pair (to be worn with everything, from silky trousers and shorts to skirts and dresses). Also they have the feel-good factor of giving a pair of TOMS shoes to a child in need for every pair you buy.

Just some quick shots of my weekend attire. From the inspiration I've been posting, I've adopted a kinda grungy-masculine look lately, involving a lot of blacks and greys, leather, plaids and been wearing my new Emma Cook for Topshop wedge boots (yet to take a photo of me in these!).

Also been experimenting with doing my hair in a different style now it's grown a bit. Slicking it back and tucking it behind my ears is my favourite thing to do at the moment...with smokey eyes (for all times of day!) and showing of my new ear cartilage piercing!

Tomorrow I leave for Morocco, for one week, with my school. I am so, so excited because I've never been anywhere like this before; my holidays have been all in the UK, France, Italy or Portugal. The photography opportunties are supposed to be breathtaking and we're travelling all over the country; up through the atlas mountains, camping in the desert after a camel ride and days of trekking, visiting markets...

Tommy Ton Inspiration

The new(ish) Tommy Ton blog on Style.com has been a real highlight to check out. Here are a few of my favourite shots from the blog:

I've been kinda obsessed with these colours lately - the bronzy/browny palette. I have even started to wear beiges and browns, which I swore previously I'd never do because I used to hate these colours so much! Plus this coat is just to die for.

This Alexander MqQueen skull-clasp clutch has been number 1 on my list of things-I-love-so-badly-but-can-NEVER-afford for a while now, ever since I saw the first version of this with 4 knuckle rings on top, and this version with the red peeking through is just even more exquisite. The only way to wear this to full effect seems to be with pink, executed perfectly here.

Good old solid classics in greys, blacks and whites done with such ease and glamour.

These struck me as classic yet quirky and the perfect antidote to boring winter wardrobes. Just shove some wooly tights and jackets on the girls and it'd be perfect for venturing out on a chilly day.

AAAAAAHHHH! London Fashion Weekend! Just got back, exhausted from being on my feet since 8o'clock this morning. Above is what I wore; my new Christopher Kane for Topshop tee, Zara jacket, H&M leggings & sunnies, desert boots from Venice.

Got there just before 9, in order to get my bearings before the catwalk show. My mum came along with me so we crowd spotted nice outfits and the disasters too!
I only remembered half way through the whole catwalk bit that I was going to take pictures for the blog (I was a little engrossed in the 'big shoulders' section)!

In the end I came away with a pretty black skirt with a frou-frou lace detail at the back - perfect for jazzing up my school suit! Also.......A LUELLA JACKET! EEEEEEEEEE! I am so so so excited about wearing it. Last season, checked black and grey velvet double breasted huge buttoned...(many other words here)....gorgeousness! I am waiting until I put it all together with an outfit to show you!

Also I NEED to talk about London Fashion Week itself (hello entire Burberry collection) but that'll have to wait a bit while I get on with some work!

I feel myself gravitating towards a mixture of blacks, greys and browny/beiges (despite the last probably being the colour that least suits my skin tone - apart from yellow). It just seems to fit my mood and all the clothes I see and love are in this colour range - with a few splashes of reddy/purpley/pinky pieces. Also I like the mixture of structured versus soft and unstructured more than I ever have before - which is great news because of all the structured jackets around I can mix with more casual, slouchy basics (which compromise a lot of my current wardrobe)!

All these are from Copenhagen Street Style, one of my favourite blogs of all time. Recently I found myself bored and browsing through the books section on Amazon, when I came across the languages section. I have always wanted to learn another language than my own, English, and French, which I've learnt at school from the age of 5 up to 16. Now not learning any languages at school I thought it'd be fun to teach myself a language. I wanted to choose a European language, thinking this might prove useful especially if travelling. German - no, I had a year stint of that when I was 13 and it didn't go well. Spanish, hmm...no, too commonly known. Swedish? Too many stereotypical images of yodelling milkmaids in my head (although judging on their fashion sense, far from the truth). So Danish? Go on - it's unusual, is a romantic-sounding language and has the feel of English mixed with German (not unbearably so).
My Amazon package of 'Teach yourself Danish' (Book & CD edition!) arrived today (speedily, with my month-trial of AmazonPrime!) and I've already completed a couple of exercises in the book. The strange extra letters in their alphabet and the silent letters/d's that sound more like l's haven't scared me off yet and I'm really excited to learn more and more - especially gratifying that I'm managing okay on my own so far!
So soon I hope to be on my way to speaking and writing decent Danish, and I shall be listening to Danish-lyrics, watching Danish videos and films and reading Danish websites until Danish is falling out of my ears!
I shall keep you updated on my progress - currently at the state of 'Jeg hedder Laura, Jeg kommer fra London, Hvad hedder din mor?' aka 'I'm called Laura, I come from London, What is your mother called?' - haha!

I am a big jewelry wearer, but I always have a few pieces I go back to. One of these is a long chain with a tiny little skull on the end - really cheap but I love it so much that even with the discolouration I still wear it years on!

The little crystals in the eyes are cute - the bigger crystal on the left though belongs to my other go-to necklace with a wolf on it.

I always am looking for this sort of jewelry - tough but feminine. Does anyone have any good recommendations for affordable but good quality things like this?

It's been so damn hot the last few days especially. I can't cope with it, I seem to always put on too many or too few clothes when going out!

I have done all my exams now (hooray!) - well except for an AEA in english but that doesn't really count...and it doesn't matter if I pass that or not! So no revision for that hehe!

I have been going out and enjoying myself a lot which is so nice and such a relief after school this year. Plus, I get to wear my own clothes nearly every day which is a fun chance to experiment.

I know I don't post often anymore, but I'm trying to ease myself back into blogging. It got to the point where it was a chore for me to post (cliche in the blogging world right now, I know) and the fun was going out of blogging. So now, I'm going to post when I want to and not just for the sake of posting.

I am feeling quite inspired lately, and with study leave and AS levels over by the end of next week, I should have more drive and time to post so keep an eye open over the next few weeks!

This is a variation of the same basic itemsthat I have been wearing A LOT lately. This jacket is my favourite wardrobe piece at the moment, kindly lent to me by one of my best friends, Sam.

The boots are also being worn daily - a bargain buy at £70 down to £10 in Topshop!

These two items are brand new this week. Both from Topshop.

The shorts are something I'd been looking for for a while - couldn't find the perfect vintage pair so caved for these. Studs and rips galore - yum! Plus the knitted top is perfect for the weather and allows for my Rodarte cravings to be satisfied.

I always really look forwards to the Calvin Klein collections - I have always been a fan of their clean cut silhouettes and block palette. So, I enthusiastically bound over to style.com have a look at the new A/W'09 collection and am greeted with this:

What the hell? I'm sorely, sorely disappointed. Okay elements are decent enough and some of the construction (especially on jackets) is rather nifty, but overall I was left with a sort of 'that's it?' feeling. Damn. That kinda annoyed me...so I shall surround myself with Alexander Wang to soothe the pain.

If you want to get me to love you forever, buy me ANYTHING of his design, please!

I've been really busy lately with loads of my projects on the go, school starting again and having to embark on the 5 or something weeks of craziness to complete my whole AS level exam project for art. I apologise for the lack of posting...but I am going to try and stay on top of everything so I have time for important things: school work, art, my clothing projects and this blog, over TV and messing about wasting time!

Firstly, a little photo update on my knitting and dress-making projects:

This is the progress on my knitting, note the new ball I had to buy because I'm nowhere near finished!

I am still working on the dress, the sleeves are done (phew!) with help from Mum and just need to hem, finish neckline & interface the neckline. Also I'm going to add some sort of embellishment or floral scatter to the neckline to make it a bit more interesting.

Also, I have bought two items from the (incredibly nice and sweet) Wendy from Hand It Over. One is a gorgeous Alexander Wang-esque white knitted jumper with black mesh inserts and the other an off-white blazer. I've been looking for a pale blazer for quite a while and everything seemed out of my reach due to price.

So I'm off to do some more art now! I did 4 pages last night in an inspirational moment after my weekly life-drawing class. Hopefully I can do a couple more pages tonight and each night to get this project really big and good!

I have a few projects on the go at the moment. I'm learning to knit and also refreshing my memory of how to make clothing (haven't since I was younger and made toys and clothes for them with my Granny).

I'm knitting a light grey (organic, merino wool, oh yes!) snood. Well...it looks like the formation of a scarf but will turn into a 'snood' by hand sewing the ends to create a circular thing.

Also a swishy maxi-dress. I originally bought some very slippy-slidey beautiful black and red paisley print material, but decided to work with something a little easier for my first thing in so long. I've gone for a jersey-cotton mix in a gorgeous navy. I can't wait for it to be finished (only just cut out the fabric though!) and then to wear it now, with cardigans and scarves with ankle boots and then into spring and summer with huge statement jewelry and gladiator sandals. I know its a bit late to be bringing this up for the first time, but I am really inspired by Peter Jensen's S/S09 collection. I put together a few of my favourite looks from the collection (clicky to see it all):

I kinda love the whole floral and stripes theme (admittedly everyone does this so a little 'been there, done that' but executed very well). Easy shapes and fun shoes (floral printed, pops of yellow, canvas trainers...) and the 'pajama' look (thing D&G) was done simply and elegantly with this silk dressing-gown inspired dress. I'd pretty much wear everything in the collection - including the mens suits and fun jackets.

100th Post!!

This is my 100th post! I never thought I'd actually sustain this project when I started it. I'm the sort of person to abandon something after a couple of weeks - and it's been almost 10 months now!

In celebration I shall try and make this a bit more decent than some of my more recent posts.

I finally got around to buying a ribbed tank top to shred. I'd been wanting to do this for months but never really took any action to getting it done. It took me the best part of 3 hours to do the whole back (save for a strip each side because I didn't want it too baggy). It is comfy and fun to wear, but for the moment I'm having to layer it over a couple of vest tops to keep me warm! Also I need to find suitably nice underwear to wear with it come summer, with the back being open. I might also try doing this with a few more tanks, maybe in black and even red or purple or something. They only cost £4 from New Look which is pretty decent.

I'm also hankering after these, which I saw in Teen Vogue:

They're by Mary Kate Steinmiller, one of their fashion editors, and apparently available at 'Charlotte Ronson'. However, I've looked at the CR brand and can't seem to find where to buy them online. Any help?

I'm digging this girl's look. I found her on lookbook.nu and kinda love her quirky clothes and ever-changing hair.

Today I wore the new tights I got in Camden on Sunday. Yipee! Paired them with my new slouchy H&M navy cardi and Gap tshirt dress (with attached scarf....very Alexander Wang!) and maroon desert boots.

They arrived - the glasses. I am so so happy and they came in such pretty packaging.

I've been wearing them all evening. My dad was laughing at me and poking through the glassless frames :( stupid parents.

Look at how nice it is, all wrapped in magazine pages. Plus it came with bubble wrap XD which I had fun popping!

Wearing: Vintage frames, Closet Mob @ etsy; Scarf, gift from friend; dress worn as top, Uniqlo; trousers, H&M Kids.

Lots of things bought lately (yay to 20% off in H&M) and so I will have loads to show you soon, especially as I'm on half term and will be in own clothes all week!

Also, notice my new hair in all its glory! I got it cut after having said for months I was going to grow it really long. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing and I'm so glad I had it cut.

Glasses I ordered from a vintage etsy shop. No glass unfortunately, but at least this means I'm not looking through a blurry prescription. Plus, hopefully I can get some clear glass put in at some point. Does anyone know if the normal opticians can do this and for about how much?

Crazy amounts of snow has fallen everywhere. It's so surreal. We (me and my sister) made our family - including Cat, Poppy (featured), in snow!

Plus, I'm starting to build up my spring/summer wardrobe. You can start to see my theme....Neutrals (we're talking nudes and paleish greys) with brights (pinks, greeny-yellows and blues).

Apologies for the photo...yes that is cello-tape binding my legs together. I hopped around for a good hour last night.

What makes me even happier than hopping around is the fact these were £12.99 for H&M kiddies. WEE! These are going to be a spring wardrobe staple.

New peg-leg trousers (worn twice already!), new leather jacket (*drool* cropped sleeves too) and crazy new heels (Preen for Topshop spectacular...unwalkable but I shall practice in my room!).

Of course, having been deprived from the usual high-street shops for a whole week I had to take a 'well earned revision break' and go shopping.

Picked up this snazzy jumpsuit from guess where......?! TOPSHOP of course! I looked at it on the website and was disappointed to see they'd run out of size 8's. I was going to order a 10 anyway but decided on the other. Thank god because the 8 is even a tad big, in the slouchy style it is. It's super comfy and stretchy and has these amazing sequined shoulders. Can't wait to wear it out with the new heels coming soon!

Also picked up this faux-fur stole from er...? I can't actually remember the name of the shop but I never normally go in and decided to today and found this. Been looking for something furry for a while so woop!

Happy New Year!

Did you all have a good evening/morning? I watched 'The Edge of Love' with Mum and Dad (by the way, LOVE the clothing) and then watched crappy TV and ate chocolates until about 1 in the morning. Weee! What a great new year celebration!
